The Women in the Church (WIC) is made up of all women that attend Providence Presbyterian Church whether they are members or not. The purpose of WIC is that every woman know Christ personally and be committed to extending His kingdom in her life, home, church, community, and throughout the world.
We learn from the Bible that God’s way of relating to us is by means of covenant. His covenant promise to believers is that He will be our God, and we will be His people. Our relationship with God puts us into a covenant community (church family) with our brothers & sisters in Christ. In the covenant community we have covenant privileges (to be ministered to) and covenant responsibilities (to minister to others).
Our WIC ministry applies this covenant model by giving us opportunities to share our gifts with one another and to encourage community within our church family and beyond. WIC functions under a Council that facilitates opportunities for ministry and service.
We believe ministry is more than just a list of things to do. There are tremendous benefits of being responsible and staying connected in our church family. In her book Heirs to the Covenant, Susan Hunt writes:
Learning to share our gifts and graces with one another so that members of the church family are encouraged in heart and united in love is an educational process. Just as we teach our children how to treat one another, our Father God teaches us in His word that we are to serve one another (John 13:1-15), to "be devoted to one another" (Rom 12:10), to be "kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other" (Eph 4:32), to "encourage one another" (Heb 3:13), and to "pray for each other" (James 5:16).
